The well known Fredericton band George Street Blues Project has volunteered their time to perform at Feast in the Field in 2005, 2006 and 2007. Their polished performances and gutsy blues were enjoyed by everyone and provided those in attendance with a sneak preview of what to expect at the upcoming jazz and blues festival in Fredericton. Thank you, George Street Blues Project, for your commitment to your community!

Sabrina is a medal winning wheelchair basketball athlete and an incredible role model for people with disabilities. She has a gold medal from the Atlanta 1996 Paralympic Games and a second gold from the Sydney 2000 Paralympic Games. She was on the Canadian team that came back from Athens in 2004 with a Paralympics bronze medal. In 2007, she earned two more medals: a bronze from the 4 Nations Tournament in Sydney, Australia and a gold medal from the Osaka Cup in Osaka, Japan. She will also compete in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China. Sabrina recently shared her personal story in an innovative CPA (N.B.) Inc. radio promotional campaign piloted in the Fredericton, Woodstock, Grand Falls & Bathurst areas. Sabrina was noted for her energy and enthusiasm and her perseverance that was evidenced in the promotional campaign. Sabrina reflected: "No matter if you are disabled or not there are always obstacles in life. It is what you make of the situation that is most important. Believe in yourself. Believe in your abilities. There's a lot of things you can do out there. I can do a lot of things. The only thing I can't do... is stairs."
The CPA (N.B.) Inc. was honoured to present a Volunteer Award of Excellence for 2007-2008 to Pat Guest.
Pat began with the CPA (N.B.) Inc. Board of Directors in 2002. He has made many commitments to the organization including sharing his personal story for the Success Story component to our web site and helping out at our fundraising events. In September 2006, Pat took the initiative to complete an informal evaluation of the entries to businesses in downtown Fredericton. His volunteer project revealed that 1/3 of downtown businesses have a barrier to entry for persons with mobility-related conditions. In October 2007, Pat presented his evaluation results to the City of Fredericton Public Safety and Environment Committee in a powerful visual presentation inclusive of a photo essay of images he captured during his project. Pat's initiative has resulted in increased partnerships for our organization with the City and Downtown Fredericton on issues of accessibility. His efforts have also led to the development of the Measure Up! pilot project that began in 2008 that aims to evaluate accessibility in the downtown and to promote good design. As a recipient of a 2007-2008 Volunteer Award of Excellence, our many thanks are extended to Pat for his leadership in the area of accessibility. Access is a human right, not a privilege.
The CPA (N.B.) Inc. was honoured to present an Ambassador of the Year Award for 2007-2008 to Chris Aalders.

Chris was also featured in two Daily Gleaner articles - a May 2, 2008 article on accessibility and a June 14, 2008 Father's Day full-p. Chris was also. Chris was nominated for this contest by his wife Cristin and two sons - Logan and Griffin. In this article, Cristin reflected, "He transports both of our boys to worlds where mobility doesn't matter." Chris also recently shared his personal story in an innovative radio advertising campaign piloted in the Fredericton, Woodstock, Grand Falls and Bathurst areas to help promote CPA (N.B.) Inc. vocational services to people with mobility-related conditions. Chris is a true ambassador and a valued member of the CPA (N.B.) team. His energy and kindness are a continual inspiration.

CPA (N.B.) Inc. Board member Pat Guest (left) presents Dave Morell with a 2007-2008 Volunteer Award of Excellence.
Dave Morell has dedicated countless hours helping our organization, as well as many others in the community. This commitment reflected values shared by his parents and his community involvement earned him a 2006 Distinguished Citizen Award from the Fredericton Chamber of Commerce. Dave sat on the Para-skate organizing committee since its inception back in the early 1990's. His voice was the first thing you heard when you walked into the Capital Exhibit Centre on Para-Skate Day and it was the last thing you heard at the end of the night. We are also fortunate to have Dave volunteer his time at our Fredericton golf event where he has done the announcing at the finals since the mid 1990's. His willingness to lend a hand, offer a voice and share his passion and knowledge defines excellence in volunteering. In an effort to simply say "thank you", we are honoured to acknowledge Dave Morell with a Volunteer Award of Excellence for 2007-2008.
