History

The Canadian Paraplegic Association was founded in 1945 by a group of paralyzed veterans. Its purpose was to facilitate the resettlement of veterans with paralysis from hospital to community.

Their efforts resulted in improved medical and rehabilitation services, better pensions and, perhaps most importantly, increased awareness in the medical community and throughout society of their abilities and potential.

In 1952, the Atlantic Division was created and this division eventually grew into four individual divisions. Formed in 1956 and incorporated in 1990, the Canadian Paraplegic Association (N.B.) Inc. is an autonomous, community-based, non-profit agency governed by a volunteer Board of Directors.

We are a leader in offering support, direct service, information and advocacy to New Brunswickers with spinal cord injuries and other mobility-related conditions.

Who We Serve

Our priority is to reach out and respond to the needs of persons with spinal cord injuries (SCIs) and their families throughout New Brunswick.

Our second priority is to offer information and/or support services to other people with physical disabilities.
